25 Fun Fall Activities for Kids (For the Coziest Fall Ever)

Fall is one of my favourite seasons for getting out and making memories with the kids. Between colourful leaves, crisp days outside, and cozy afternoons at home, there are so many simple ways to make the season feel special without planning anything elaborate or expensive.

Whether you are looking for an excuse to head outside, something to do on a rainy afternoon, or an easy fall craft, these 25 fall activities for kids are full of simple ideas for enjoying the season together.

Outdoor Fall Activities

Just because summer has come to an end doesn’t mean the outdoor fun has to stop! Fall is actually one of my favourite seasons to spend outdoors once the temperatures cool off and the air gets deliciously crispy!

Make nature bracelets:

Wrap a piece of packing tape around your kiddos wrist and let them decorate it with things they find in nature like leaves, flowers, or seeds.

Decorate a sidewalk with chalk

Chalk isn’t just for summer! Choose a sunny day and spend some time decorating the a sidewalk or your driveway with fall themed designs.

Fall Nature Scavenger Hunt

Turn an ordinary nature walk into a fall scavenger hunt in your neighborhood or a local walking trail! Have kids search for colourful leaves, acorns, pinecones, and other little signs of autumn along the way.

Leaf Pile Jumping

A core child memory, fall edition! Get out side and spend some time making as big a pile as you can for the kids to jump in. As a bonus you can take a picture every year and challenge your family to make the pile bigger year after year!

Have a Fall Picnic

Picnics don’t have to be just a summer activity! Enjoy spending some intentional time outside in the crisp fall air together.

Fall Nature Walk

Find a local walking trail where you can see the changing colours of the leaves, you could even take it up a notch by filling out a nature journal page and observing how the environment is changing through the seasons.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

It isn’t fall without a visit to the pumpkin patch! Many pumpkin patches are on farms that have many other fall activities as well like corn mazes or hay rides. Perfect for a memorable fall outing as a family!

Collect Colourful Leaves

In your backyard or on a walk you can collect the prettiest and most colourful leaves you can find to use in crafts or even preserve them! One idea is making DIY decorations from the leaves together as family, if you preserve the leaves first you can make décor with a memory included that will last you for years to come.

Fall Obstacle Course

Use pumpkins, hay bales, sticks, or logs to make a fun obstacle course outside. You could make it competitive and see who can get through the course the fastest (including the grown ups for some extra fun!) and let the winner decide the next family fall activity.

Even if the weather is bad some days this fall, that doesn’t mean seasonal fun has to stop! Here are some cozy ideas you can do inside with your kids:

Fall Movie Night

Choose a movie with fall or Halloween vibes, some yummy snacks, maybe even open a window for that extra crisp fall fresh air and enjoy a fun movie night as a family! If the weather is nice enough maybe consider taking the movie night outside with a projector!

Bake a Fall Treat Together

There is just something about fall and all the flavours and fun recipes that come with it that gets me in the baking mood! Choose one, or a couple, fun recipes and make a day of it with the whole family.

Decorate for Fall Together

Get the whole family involved in decorating this year! You could have the kids each choose or make a piece of décor and help decide where it goes. With Some hot chocolate or apple cider, and some music, this could become an incredible fun and memorable tradition for the whole family.

Have a Family Game Night

Make a cozy fall evening of it with a family game night! Grab a few favourite board or card games, add some warm drinks and snacks, and enjoy a little screen-free time together.

Read Fall Themed Books Together

Gather a few fall-themed books and curl up together for a cozy story time. Look for stories about changing leaves, pumpkins, woodland animals, or all the little things that make autumn special.

Make a Blanket Fort

Turn an ordinary afternoon into an adventure by building a cozy blanket together. Fill it will pillows, books, snacks, and twinkle lights for the perfect fall hideaway.

Make a Cozy Fall Sensory Bin

Create a fall-themed sensory bin with seasonal colours, textures, and treasures for little hands to explore. Try dried leaves, pinecones, scoops, small pumpkins and other age-appropriate items you already have at home.

Make Shadow Puppets

The sun setting earlier doesn’t have to be a bad thing! Take advantage of the evenings getting dark earlier and put on a fun puppet production!

Fall Crafts & Creative Activities

Fall brings so many beautiful things to find in nature and with that comes endless opportunities to get crafty and create something fun!

Leaf Rubbings

Collect some leaves in different shapes and place them under a piece of paper before drawing on the paper with crayon to reveal the leaf’s shape and texture. You can even use many leaves to create a fun piece of art.

Painting Pumpkins

Pumpkins won’t last all the way until Halloween if they are carved earlier in the month, but painted pumpkins will! This is also a great activity for littles who maybe aren’t old enough to participate in carving.

Pressed Leaf Art

On your next walk, grab some more colourful leaves, press them between heavy books until they are flat and dry. Use them to create pictures, collages, bookmarks, or other fall art work.

Pinecone Creatures

Turn pinecones into silly woodland creatures using whatever craft supplies you have on hand. Add googly eyes, felt, pipe cleaners, or paper to make owls, foxes, hedgehogs and more.

Apple Stamping

Cut an apple in half, dip it is washable paint, and use it as stamp to make easy fall artwork. Try different colours and patterns, or turn the apple prints into pumpkins, trees, or a homemade card.

Make a Fall Wreath

Make a simple fall wreath together using colourful leaves, pinecones, acorns, or other treasures collected on a nature walk. You can use a cardboard ring as an easy base and let the kids decorate it however they like.

Salt Dough Leaf Impressions

Gather some fun leaves or other foliage and press them into salt dough for some fun DIY décor! You could even paint them after with autumn colours for extra fun.

Make Tiny Acorn People

Using an acorn for the head you can build little people out of things you can find in nature! Get creative with the things you use to build the rest of the person, maybe sticks for the arms and legs, or a cape made of leaves. The opportunities are endless, it doesn’t even have to be a person.

You don’t need an elaborate fall bucket list to make the season memorable. Sometimes the best activities are the simplest ones, a walk through crunchy leaves, an afternoon spent painting pumpkins, or a cozy project around the kitchen table.
